Victor Slovak Junior: Victoria Dergunova beats Anastasia Ronzhina in Women’s Singles U19 semi-final
Russia’s experienced shuttler Victoria Dergunova had to dig into her reserves to produce better form and she managed to overpower her un-seeded compatriot Anastasia Ronzhina in Women’s Singles U19 semi-final at the Victor Slovak Junior 2012 in Slovakia,
on Saturday, November 10.
The higher ranked Victoria, who is the top seeded female in the main draw of the championship, worked to her maximum potential and remained successful in beating her talented team-mate in a hard-fought contest that took 42 minutes of thrilling play from
both sides.
Victoria found a worst start as she lost the opening set but got her rhythm in a timely fashion and won the following both sets in a reasonable fashion and ended up this battle in three games with a decent margin.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Anastasia showed a great performance and notched the opening set but failed to maintain her aggression in the following sets losing to her rival in a decent fashion with a reasonable difference on the score board.
In the starting set, the top seeded Victoria could not show an expected performance on court as she executed negative shots which enabled her rival to dominate the pace of the game.
The quivering play of Victoria put her in trouble all the way in the opening set and she eventually lost it with a comfortable difference of 16-21.
In the second game, Victoria found a good flow as she was quicker from the starting points and managed an early lead while remaining focused on court.
After the mid-game break, the lofty Victoria continued playing positive badminton without showing any mercy to her rival and took the set with a reasonable margin of 21-16.
In the final game, Victoria continued showing up positive performance and stayed on track until the one-minute break.
In the concluding half of final set, the impressive Victoria continued her smooth run and managed to grab the game with a decent total of 21-17.
The higher ranked Victoria ended up this thrilling three-set semi-final contest in 42 minutes with a reasonable 16-21, 21-16 and 21-17 score on the board.
