Victor Valdes – A goal stopping play maker? (Part 1)
The Spanish La Liga was named as the best league in the world when the FIFA Ballon d’Or was announced. It was a player who played in the La Liga – http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 – who was crowned as the Ballon d’Or winner for the second time in a row. There is no doubt that
La Liga is an extraordinary league with extraordinary talent playing it. The way the teams perform there is simply extraordinary. It is true that the league is not very competitive but the style of play all the teams have adapted there is simply incredible.
Currently there are speculations that the best team in the world belongs to the Spanish La Liga and it is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. The Catalan Giants have grown ridiculously in terms of talent and style of play since the arrival of their current coach Josep Guardiola.
The former midfielder of Barcelona decided to introduce new tactics to a team that has been playing for quite some time. Josep Guardiola decided to play a game in which the theory says: “As long as you have the ball, your opponent can’t score.”
With such tactics, Barcelona managed to become a team very close to being invincible. They broke records after records. They definitely had all the individual and team brilliance that was required to win trophies and they became the first team ever to win
six trophies in a single season. Later, there were a few players that made the headlines for the Catalans because they were performing extraordinarily. Players like Xavi Hernandez, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta – the three finalists of the Ballon d’Or.
Even though the midfield is the most integral part of football and the midfielders are the players who are linking the play throughout the game, there is no doubt that there is one player in Barcelona who is different from all his types and functions differently
from all the other players that belong to his category – the Catalan number 1 Victor Valdes.
The Spaniard was selected for the FIFA World Cup 2010 but never really made an appearance for the Spanish team during the tournament. Of course it was the captain of Real Madrid and the Spanish team http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815 who took his role in between the two poles
because he is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. However, there is no doubt that the role that is given to Victor Valdes is quite remarkable.
While playing under Josep Guardiola, the theory is that each and every player is supposed to pass. There is no doubt that this works in the midfield and while attacking; however, for Barcelona this also works in the defence and for the goalkeepers. There
are not many goalkeepers in the world who would not like to clear the ball and would like to pass it out towards a player that is near them. Victor Valdes is one of those goalkeepers who do not only stop the ball from finding the back of the net – in fact;
they become a part of the play making.
