After the recent round of matches in Spanish top flight football, Barcelona dropped points for the 6th time on their away travels and trail Real Madrid by 7 points.
Barcelona were expected to comfortably collect the three points on offer as they travelled to an out-of-sorts Villarreal. However, with luck and referees against them, the Catalan club could only muster a goalless draw.
With Real Madrid coming from a goal down to win their league match against Real Zaragoza at the Santiago Bernabeu, the weekend could not have been worse for the Catalan Giants.
As it stands, the Camp Nou-based outfit trail Real Madrid by seven points and can see their chances of retaining their title fade.
Barcelona goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, accepted that Pep Guardiola’s men find themselves in a precarious situation but believes they can still turn their fortunes around.
The shot-stopper stated that they have no room for error in their remaining league fixtures and have to win all the points on offer to dethrone Real Madrid at the top of La Liga rankings.
"We have no more room for error," Valdes told Spanish sports daily, Sport. "We have dropped two important points against Villarreal. We have to win all the points that remain.
"And that's what you get. If we want to fight for the league, we cannot fail anymore because there is a rival in front of us that is very strong."
Analyzing the root of their problems, Valdes remarked that fatigue has crept up on them. He stated that throughout the season, they have had to deal with estranged venues in UEFA Champions League and their trip to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Japan-c2928 for FIFA Club World Cup did
not help them either.
However, he rubbished claims that injuries have anything to do with their disarrayed performances. The L'Hospitalet de Llobregat-born player stated that they have a big enough squad to deal with absences of players, and it could not be used as an excuse.
"Injuries can never be used as excuses," he argued. "That would be small team that does that. There is enough [strength in depth] to deal with all of the games.
"[But] I have the feeling that we are tired. But we are facing opponents who are also playing a lot and nobody here ever said that this would be easy.”
