The Barca shot-stopper could hardly hold back his delight at his side’s 4-0 victory over Getafe as he expressed that it was a ‘fantastic’ match for the Catalans.
Valdes stated that he is more than pleased with the way his team performed during the match and asserted that the win goes on to say a great deal about the current Spanish champions.
Pep Guardiola’s men went face-to-face against Luis Garcia Plaza’s Getafe at the Nou Camp on Tuesday. To the joy of the home crowd, the Catalan giants emerged 4-0 victorious over the visitors in what was a convincing win for the hosts.
Barcelona were able to put up a comprehensive display of football as they completely dominated the Azulones throughout the match. El Geta could only hope to successfully defend against La Blaugrana, but they were just unable keep the hosts out.
The Spanish giants opened the scoring early on in the match as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 struck from a beautifully
executed move, to double his side’s advantage over Getafe.
Although Barcelona were impressive in the first half, it was the second half which saw the Catalans assert their dominance.
As the game progressed after the break, the match seemed all but over as both sides appeared almost casual on the field. It was in the 73rd minute that Alexis Sanchez completed his brace and took the score to 3-0. It was Pedro,
who struck the final goal of the match only a minute later, putting the game to bed.
"Fantastic match from the team and now we’re only a point behind the leaders. We’re in the final stretch of La Liga and we have to grit our teeth, it’s almost over," Valdes told reporters.
"The boss [Pep Guardiola] always tells us what we need to hear. We’re one point away; we’ll see what Madrid do tomorrow [Wednesday]. The work that needed to get done today is finished," he added.
Another notable feature of the match was the fact that the game ended with Barca having 10 youth players on the field. It appears as though the UEFA Champions League title holders keep getting stronger by the day.
