Victor Valdes hails Pep Guardiola's coaching style
Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes has showered praise over Pep Guardiola, the former Barca player who has coached the club since 2008.
With 11 seasons and 263 league appearances for Barcelona to his name, Guardiola was well-engrained in the club's philosophy before taking charge of the club two years ago.
At the start of his third season in charge of the club, Guardiola has already won two La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
Barcelona are fourth in the league after seven games and have been widely tipped to claim a third consecutive domestic title this season.
"Pep is the secret weapon of this group. Leaving aside the sheer quality of players, he is a very special talent, along with the rest of his coaching staff," Valdes told the Spanish publication
Sport. "Pep Guardiola is one of the best secrets and the most important member of the team."
Valdes, who, unlike his Barcelona teammates, features only occasionally for the Spanish national team due to competition from Real Madrid's Iker Casillas for the number-one spot, praises Guardiola's passion as a manager.
"The group also makes him a great coach. His philosophy and his constant attempts to put it into practice every day with great gusto and desire leads us to want to win every game and every title. His insistence allows us to always follow his virtues."
Form bound to return
Barcelona have drawn their last two games, but in light of their mesmerizing performances in recent seasons, the Catalans' form is bound to improve.
Valdes said that he is confident that the team's form is due to return to the high standard that Barcelona's supporters are accustomed to.
“We must be more focused in this direction, and I am convinced that we will improve. It is disappointing not to get the wins that we want, but the fans appreciate how hard we try as long as we continue with the same philosophy.”
