The Catalan shot stopper claimed that Barcelona are not yet out of La Liga title chase.
The Spaniard has insisted that the current Spanish Champions can bounce back in the race for the Liga BBVA despite being ten points behind league leaders, Real Madrid.
The Catalan giants suffered defeat on their visit to Osasuna last Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s men were beaten 2-3 away from home, providing Los Blancos with a chance to extend their lead at the top of the league table. It was a chance well taken by Mourinho’s
men as they emerged 4-2 winners over Levante at home on Sunday.
Before last week’s fixtures, the difference between the two Spanish Giants in the table was of seven points, but after Barcelona’s defeat at the hands of Osasuna and Madrid’s victory over Levante, the gap was extended to ten points.
As it appears, Los Blancos might just put an end to Barcelona’s dominance over Spanish football.
Although many believe that it is impossible for Barca to find a way back in the title race, Valdes has assured his teammates that La Blaugrana can still work hard and win the crown for the fourth consecutive year.
He used the convincing result against Bayer Leverkusen as a factor to motivate the players to continue with their winning ways.
While talking to a press conference on Thursday, the keeper was quoted as saying:
"Away from home we have not achieved the expected results, so we're 10 points behind. But now, we cannot give up. We must keep believing in ourselves and the wins will come. I still believe we can win the league. We are professionals and we must accept
victories and defeats in equal measure.
"The match against Leverkusen was important to win because they were a tough opponent and we needed to stay alive in this competition. I am sure that this [result] will also keep us in the race for the league title."
