Victoria Arlen earns Women’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Victoria Arlen of USA earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle in S6 category on concluding day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 8.
The American swimmer remained in a prominent lead over her opponents throughout the discipline and made her way to the finishing wall for gold medal in a world record time.
With her unrelenting efforts, Arlen stayed one and a half body length ahead of her strongest contender and proved her eligibility for the title by producing a time of 1 minute and 13.33 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Eleanor Simmonds of Great Britain, who stayed 1.49 seconds slower from her and transpired on the finishing blockade as second position holder by reporting a time of 1 minute and 14.82 seconds.
Simmonds was chased by Tanja Groepper of Germany, who stayed 2.01 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 16.83 seconds for bronze medal.
Groepper was followed by Lingling Song of China, who stayed only 0.01 seconds slower and secured fourth position of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 16.84 seconds.
Similarly, Song enjoyed an advantage of nearly three body lengths over Emanuela Romano of Italy, who proved her eligibility for fifth finest spot of the race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 19.54 seconds.
Romano was chased by Olena Fedota of Ukraine, who suffered a loss of 0.43 seconds from her foregoing finisher and secured sixth best place with a timing of 1 minute and 19.97 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Natalie Jones of Great Britain, who stayed almost three body lengths behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 22.64 seconds.
Jones was traced by Erika Nara of Japan, who stayed two and a half body length behind and ended her swim in eighth best place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 25.16 seconds.
Arlen was contented with her effort in the race and collected medal after the event.
