Victoria Azarenka bulldozes Urszula Radwanska to reach the quarter-finals – BNP Paribas Open 2013
Former world number one, Victoria Azarenka, carried on her unbeaten run of the running season by registering her 17th successive victory on Tuesday. The top seeded Belarusian hunted down the 37th ranked Pole
youngster, Urszula Radwanska, in the fourth round battle of BNP Paribas Open. She took one hour and 24 minutes to wrap up her comprehensive victory in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to reach the quarter-final round of the WTA Premier Mandatory event in Indian Wells,
USA.
The defending champion has been absolutely ballistic this season, winning every single match she contested and bagging two WTA championship titles. She had defeated Radwanska at the same venue in 2011 and replicated the same result
on Tuesday evening to move a step closer to the title match. Azarenka displayed her usual aggressive game play to take down the 22-year-old Pole right from the beginning of the match. She carried to build up pressure upon Radwanska, who eventually crumbled
in the second set to fall out of the tournament in dismay.
It was pretty obvious I wasn't feeling that well - my ankle was bothering me, it's been bothering me for a while, and it hasn't really been getting better," Azarenka said after the match. "But on the bright side, I won the match
today. I overcame those things and - I don't know how - managed to just take my opportunities and really go for my shots and make it happen, and not just wait for her mistakes. She's a very, very consistent player and doesn't miss, so I had to take everything
in my own hands."
The reigning world number two delivered 80 per cent of her first serve on target, winning 32 out of 46 points on it and breaking the Polish serve five out of 11 times in the match. On the other hand, Radwanska could barely register
one break point in the entire contest to finish on the losing side.
Azarenka will take on the former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, in the quarter-final draw of BNP Paribas Open. Wozniacki was successful against the Russian veteran, Nadia Petrova, 7-6(3), 6-3, in the fourth round match.
