Victoria Azarenka gives the boot to Irina-Camelia Begu in 2nd round – Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011
Tuesday, 27th September kicked off with the number three seeded, Victoria Azarenka opening the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2011 against Irina-Camelia Begu. The players took up the sword on outdoor hard courts of
Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan. Playing the unseeded Romaine Begu, the Belarusian (Azarenka) nailed 6-1, 6-3 in an hour and fifteen minutes.
Azarenka opted to serve first as she had just won the service toss and she got off to a great start as she not only held her serve but also capitalized on an early break to take a mini break of 2-0. By utilizing her serve-break-serve
method by the end of the third game she was leading with a 3-0.
Mean while, Begu had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed and was unable to set her rhythm. It was in the fourth game that she actually won a game on her serve and subsequently in the following two games the players won on their
respective serves. At this point the score board read as 4-1.
During the sixth game Begu had given another break point opportunity to Azarenka to break her and by availing the chance, she snatched away another game from Begu to lead 5-1. Serving for the set Azarenka smashed a back hand shot
down the line and saw a comprehensive bread stick victory.
The number three seed Azarenka did not let Begu break as she was able to save a hundred percent of her break points and by capitalising on two out of three break points, Azarenka got the competitive edge.
Serving second was Begu and she bagged a quick first game to roll the score board to 1-0. Following at her heels was Azarenka and she too won on her respective serve to place herself on the score board. However, in the next game
Begu lost control of her serve and she double faulted giving Azarenka a game. As the Belarusian benefited from the break, she went on to holding her serve in fourth game and was leading 3-1.
During the following four games the players matched a toe-for-a-toe and by the end of the eighth game Azarenka was a break and game up leading with a 5-3. Serving to stay in the match was Begu while, Azarenka was looking to break
and as Begu’s forehand went wayward, she gifted the set and t he match to Azarenka.
