Victoria Azarenka looks to write a new chapter all over again – Tennis News
World number two, Victoria Azarenka, is all set to begin a brand new chapter of her professional career and hit another cameo this season to reclaim her lost number one spot from the Russian superstar, Maria Sharapova. She is in
the semi-final of the Wimbledon Championships and a very strong contender to lift the title especially after an early exit of the recently crowned French Open Champion, Sharapova.
Six-time Wimbledon Champion, Serena Williams, will be up against her in the semi-final battle on the eve of Thursday. It will not be an easy clash for the Belarusian superstar before she confirms her spot in the grand finale of
the tournament. However, she will give a tough time to the 30-year-old experienced American and most probably look to shun her rival from going through to the last stage of the Championship.
Azarenka talked about her aims and stated, “I don't really like to look back in history because every time you step on the court it's a new story. You kind of write your own history every time. I've lost to her most of the time.
But I think we played once here only. She's a great champion. It's going to be a tough match no matter what. But that's what you kind of expect to have in the semi-finals. We had good matches. We had bad matches. We'll see."
Williams was complimentary towards her rival stating, “Already having a Grand Slam (Australian Open) under her belt is really great. She did it in such style, so it's not going to be easy. She's had a better year than I have.”
It will be interesting to see if Azarenka can repeat the heroics of the Australian Open again at a different surface and rainy weather. She has a chance to do the same as she did by winning the Australian Open; grab a Grand Slam
title and rise to the number one ranking in the world. She has not been tested in the tournament at all but her real test will begin on the eve of Thursday when she will lock horns with the American sixth seed superstar, Williams. Everyone is hoping for a
tight three-setter.
