Victoria Azarenka ousts wild card entrant Stephanie Dubois in the 2ndround – Rogers Cup 2011
Victoria Azarenka ousts Stephanie Dubois in a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) victory during the second round of the Rogers Cup 2011. Both the players had contested on hard courts of the Rexall Centre in York University, Toronto, Canada.
The two had previously met during the ITF event in Pittsburgh, where Azarenka had triumphed over her opponent with 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. This was the second time they were competing but it was unlikely to see an upset against Victoria.
The world number 4, Azarenka came on the court and opened the set by smashing an ace, however, in the next few moments with a failing precision she struck one line fault, while, her opponent had three double faults.
Azarenka’s forearm was a lethal weapon that won her 65% of her total service points in the set against the home-girl (Dubois), who only mustered a pitiable 36%, win in the total service points. Struggling with her confidence the
Canuck was barely able to save 1 of the 4 break points on her serve and because she was unable to falter her opponent’s defence, she failed to achieve a single break point.
Although, the Canadian had an average 50% win in her second return but because of a poor performance in her first return she was unable to score and hardly bagged a total of 35% of total return points, whereas, the world number
4 with her expert skill not only placed drop shots in her return serve but made her opponent run around the court and with an unmatched skill won 14 out of 22 points, making it an exceptional 64% win in her total return points and won the set.
During the second set there was not much change in the performance of both the players, and instead, it was a one way travel for the Belarusian (Azarenka). Playing against world number 108 (Dubois) was as easy as pie and this time
Dubois had struck an extra double fault from the previous set.
The Canuck lost most of her points as she was neither able to save nor win any break points, while Azarenka won and saved a hundred percent of her break points. Knowing that it was easy to break her opponent Azarenka won a grand
86% of her total return points with the help of her backswing and put her opponent to shame who could only half of what she had, making it a 40% win for Dubois.
Azarenka had put her opponent to shame with the help of her strong ground strokes with assisted her in achieving 18 out of 30 points, building it to be a walloping 60% win, against Dubois who could barely manage a pathetic 14%
in her total service points.
With almost twice as many points as her opponent’s, amounting to a 68% win in her total set points, the Belarusian secured a straight sets win to ensure a third round spot for herself.
