Victoria Azarenka ready to face all challenges – Tennis News
Newly ranked, world number one, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, is all fired up for the challenges ahead to retain that deserving number top spot. She knows that everyone will be coming at her all the time, threatening her number
one rank, especially the likes of Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters, Petra Kvitova and Li Na. Three of the mentioned players have already tasted the delight of being on top of the world rankings but Kvitova and Li Na will be hungry to achieve
that milestone. The competition will be tough and Azarenka knows it.
Talking to the media representatives after her maiden Grand Slam triumph in the Australian Open on Saturday, she stated, “Maria is playing really well right now, Serena (Williams) is back, Kim, I think it’s great for women’s tennis.
With Li Na also winning a grand slam, I think it’s great competition and we can really look forward. Women’s tennis is at a great level right now.”
The Belarusian was seeking such an epic breakthrough for quite sometime now. She was unlucky on multiple occasions last year but this time she made no mistake and bullishly ousted the third ranked Russian, Maria Sharapova, in straight
sets. The way she played at the courts on Saturday showed her enthusiasm and commitment to become the world number one. Considering that she is just 22-years-old, she will have to fight hard for a long period of time in order to sustain that number one spot
for a respectable tenure.
Azarenka is ready to face all kinds of challenges and she plans to practice even harder in order to improve her game to the next level. She further added, “I have to keep going the same way with my mentality, just one step at a
time. It’s going to be a long year and there will be a lot of matches. I just want to keep on improving. If I try my best every day, I can reach a little bit more little by little.”
She is still unbeaten this year; bagging two back-to-back titles, Apia Sydney International and the Australian Open. It’s a long year ahead of her and she needs to perform exceptionally well throughout the year to sustain her number
one spot. The Czech superstar, Petra Kvitova, is the closest one to dethrone the Belarusian and there is no doubt that she will keep knocking at the door until she is rewarded for her performances.
