Victoria Azarenka slays Ana Ivanovic in round four – Wimbledon Championships 2012
A clash of two former world number one players witnessed a recent top rank holder, Victoria Azarenka, slaughtering the Serbian superstar, Ana Ivanovic, in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
It was a fourth round clash of Wimbledon Championships and played at the Centre Court of All England Lawn Tennis Club; lasted just a couple of minutes above an hour time.
Crowd was left dejected with the 14th ranked Serb’s inability to handle the onslaught of her rival. They were expecting a tight battle but it was just one-sided show with the Belarusian tennis icon enjoying the entire
glory.
Ivanovic was broken to love in the opening game and Azarenka held her serve to love in the following game. It meant that first eight points were bagged by the second ranked Belarusian who will most probably reclaim her top spot
witnessing an early exit to the newly ranked Russian world number one, Maria Sharapova.
The Serb could just managed one point in the third game and went down 0-3 in the opening set. A cracking serve hold further enhanced the lead for the 22-year-old Belarusian. Finally a tight serve hold for the 24-year-old Serb put
her off the mark but she still trailed miserably at 1-4.
Azarenka continued the onslaught and captured another breakpoint in the seventh game of the match; thumping her rival to an embarrassing first set score line. It took 29 minutes for the Belarusian to wipe off the opening set proceedings.
The second set started off well for the Serb who pushed her rival to dig deep and hold serve. However, the misery of her failure in the serve games continued. She went down 0-2 after losing the opening serve and couldn’t win a
single point in the following game.
Azarenka continued the onslaught and grabbed another breakpoint on the trot to enhance the lead to 4-0. Everyone in the arena was pissed to witness such a miserable performance from the Serb who is also the heartthrob of millions
on the planet due to her gorgeous looks and mesmerizing figure.
The Belarusian was under the cosh in the fifth game of the second set but did well to save three back-to-back breakpoints to hold. Ivanovic served to stay in the set and save a bagel but she couldn’t. It was a terrible performance
from her to say the least.
Victoria Azarenka faces a surprise package unseeded Austrian contender, Tamira Paszek, in the quarters.
