Victoria Azarenka will lead the field at China Open 2012 in Beijing – Tennis News
Ending her Tokyo campaign in a dismal manner, the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, will again lead the competitive field in the upcoming China Open. The WTA Premier Series event will be competed on the hard courts
of Beijing in China, with Azarenka seeded at the top of the draw.
The Belarusian tennis diva has been in her prime form this season but her campaign at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo ended in a disappointing fashion. She couldn’t recover from the dizziness she was suffering from her illness
prior to the tournament and had to pull out from the quarter-final round on Thursday. Azarenka was going extremely strong to bag her fifth WTA title of the season and won her opening two matches with commanding authority. She was expected to sweep aside of
her remaining opponent in Tokyo but her deteriorating physical condition didn’t allow her to proceed any further.
Hopefully, the 23-year-old will be fully fit for the China Open, commencing from the next Monday, and will perform her expected heroics to come out as the winner. With the world number four, Serena Williams, pulling out of the
Beijing campaign due to flu, Azarenka will have much better chances to clinch gold. She has been extremely explosive this year but her encounters against Williams have resulted in her defeat. She recently lost the final of the US Open to the American number
one after a stiff battle in the final.
The current world number one was seeded at number two at China Open last year but she had to pull out of the third round due to injury. She has already spoiled her winning chances in Tokyo this week but she won’t like to do the
same in Beijing as well.
Following Azarenka in the tournament seeds is the former world number one, Maria Sharapova. The Russian beauty is also ever-hungry for a WTA title at the moment and will be the second hot favourite for becoming the champion in
Beijing.
The China Open defending champion, Agnieszka Radwanska, is seeded at number three this time in Beijing, followed by Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber, Sara Errani, Li Na, Samantha Stosur, Marion Bartoli and Caroline Wozniacki, in
the respective order of tournament seeds.
