Victoria Azarenka will receive a tough competition by her opponents in 2013 – Tennis News
Reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, will surely suffer from a tough battle in the 2013 tennis season at the hands of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.
Amongst all the players, the strong and the most experienced of all the tennis professionals is Williams. She made a remarkable comeback in 2012 after the Wimbledon Championship singled title. Transcending with a high speed, she
bagged away a gold medal in the London 2012 Olympics for the first time in singles category. Due to her thrilling achievements, she was given the title of “Player of the Year” in the women’s category. She still rests on the world number three spot as she contested
in few tournaments than Azarenka.
The 23-year-old commenced her year by bagging home the trophy at the Australian Open held at the hard courts of Melbourne. After her superb victories at Doha and Indian Wells, she was riding 23-0 winning streak. Her transcending
winning scale hampered by her loss at the hands of the French senior, Marion Bartoli in the Miami finals. She contested for most of the clay court tournaments but could not manifest her true potential. She suffered from a heavy loss at the round of the French
Open by Dominika Cibulkova.
Her losses continued against the 31-year-old Williams in the semi-finals of Wimbledon Championship. At the Great Games 2012 in London, she received a shocker by Williams in the semi-finals, securing the bronze medal after nudging
past the Russian, Maria Kirilenko.
At the US Open, the right-hander American competitor proved to be more powerful amongst all. She suffered a three set loss, 2-6, 6-2, 5-7 in the final round. In the semi-finals, she outmuscled the Russian number one, Maria Sharapova.
If Azarenka were lucky enough to bag home the win against her American senior then the scenario would have been a lot different today.
The 25-year-old, Sharapova, did not prove to be a bigger challenge for her, as Azarenka boldly marched past her in the final round of the China Open held at the hard courts of Beijing.
The right-hander Belarusian native rallied beyond the German star, Julia Goerges, in the final of Generali Ladies Linz but received a straight sets surprising defeat at the hands of Sharapova in the semi-finals of WTA Championship
held at the indoor hard courts of Istanbul.
Azarenka confidently hold the world number position, as she is ready to undertake all her challengers for her 2013 campaign, as she is desperate to amplify her hall of fame.
