Victoria Azarenka withdraws from Montreal – Tennis News
World number one, Victoria Azarenka, pulled out from the Montreal campaign in Canada. The Belarusian tennis ace had to face the 43rdAustrian underdog, Tamira Paszek, in the brawl scheduled to be played on Thursday
but due to the bad weather, the match postponed to Friday.
In an interview, she told the reporters, “The last week took so much energy out of me that I had absolutely no time to recover, and my body is feeling it. It was a little bit too quick of a transition for me to come and start
the training, and I felt my knee just wasn't in good shape. It's unfortunate because I was really looking forward to playing here. I have really enjoyed being here. I tried yesterday and today it just got worse. I can't see the point of continuing to play
if I can't give even 50% of my game.”
The Olympic bronze medallist was all set to smash a lead in the tournament but suddenly bombarded the media with the news of her serious left knee injury. This brought glad tiding to the Paszek, who got a walkover to the
third round.
The serious concern for the Belorussian number one is the U.S. Open, which will commence exactly in 17 days. If she is unable to achieve a fast recover, it will be impossible for her to contest for the fourth Grand Slam for
the year. The Belorussian professional believes that this phase is temporary. She has never been able to win past the fourth round at the U.S. Open Championships therefore she needs to rest and adopt a slower pace in order to give it her best.
The 23-year-old tennis ace competed in the semi-finals at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships but received a straight sets upset by the Olympic champion, Serena Williams. She exhibited a remarkable pace in the London Olympics
and disposed all her opponent in straight sets. Finally, she ended up winning the bronze medal against the 14th seeded, Russian Maria Kirilenko. Alongside that; she was also able to attain a gold medal in the mixed doubles category.
