Would like to spend a day just to drive or make a loop around the island. Is this possible?

  1. Get a map. Vancouver island is 3,175,000 hectares and has 2,150 miles of coastline.  Not something you could do in a day. There is so much you can do on the island - go to tourism BC and check it all out

  2. You can't drive around it, the roads don't go there. Have you checked a map? It's a big island. You can drive north from Victoria. It takes about 4 hours to get to Campbell River from Victoria, to give you an idea of time. From Victoria to Nanaimo there's basically one highway, from Nanaimo to Campbell River you can choose the new highway(fast, nice scenery, no towns) or the old highway which goes through the towns. You can drive a loop from Victoria, through Cowichan and out to the west coast of the island but I haven't driven it and it was logging roads not so long ago and I don't know what kind of driving it is now.

Going from Victoria to Campbell River and back would make a long day's drive, but you'd see a lot if you chose alternate routes, and the days are long in June. Make sure you go to Coombs.
