Victoria Chen Girl’s wins Singles U19 title at 2013 Northwest Super Regional – Badminton news
USA’s talented player, Victoria Chen, maintained proved her worth as she claimed Girl’s Singles U19 title after defeating her lower ranked compatriot, Cherie Chow, in the final of 2013 Northwest Super Regional on Monday, May 27, in USA.
Victoria, who was top seeded shuttler in Girl’s Singles main draw of the tournament, worked really hard in the final battle and remained successful in getting rid of her second seeded opponent in 37 minutes.
The top seeded Victoria had to employ all of her skills to overpower her in-form challenger. She managed to wind up this title battle in straight games with a decent 21-18 and 21-19 score on the board.
Meanwhile, the lower ranked Cherie also impressed the crowd with her attacking skills. She did not let her top seeded rival to dictate the pace. She played good badminton but failed to maintain her rhythm in ending points and eventually lost the match with
a respectable score.
The match started in a thrilling manner as both ladies progressed while remaining neck to neck. No one could take even a small lead at the initial stage.
The tempo of the rallies was quite fast in and both contestants progressed equally until the one-minute break.
However, after the interval, the higher ranked Victoria dig deep into her arsenal and managed to play dominating badminton at net. She took a small lead in the concluding points and eventually won the opening game with a decent margin of 21-18.
In the second game, the underdog Cherie again played competitive badminton and remained toe-to-toe at the starting rallies. The crowd could not have asked for better contest as both players put up spectacular show of top class game.
Victoria tried to take lead but failed to find any gaps in her rival’s court. However, she remained positive and slightly ahead on the board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Cherie changed her tactics and started to play parallel game but failed to break the defence of her in-form opponent.
Meanwhile, Victoria maintained her focus in the game and managed to wrap up the second set with a reasonable 21-17 score on the board.
