Victoria Elizabeth finishes strong at Daytona Beach Invitational 2012
American Victoria Elizabeth had a tough three days at the Daytona Beach Invitational 2012, but she remained strong in the first two rounds to finish tied for the seventh position on the leaderboard.
Elizabeth got off to a solid start as she posted a 69 in the opening round of Daytona Beach Invitational, a Symetra Tour event, on Friday at Florida.
The American star knew how to remain in contention right from the start, and that was why she made sure her start was solid. Having got off to a firm start, Elizabeth made it easy to move
ahead without letting her rivals rattle her in the last two rounds.
“My caddie said let’s get a strong off strong and not look back because I hate coming from behind so it started off good,” she said at the end of the first round. “I birdied the first two
and hit it well all day and gave myself a lot of chances especially on the back nine and made a couple good putts. Wish I could have continued it on the front nine but nothing wanted to go in. Hopefully I’m saving them for the rest of the weekend”.
The star golfer kept it up in the second round as well as she did not lose her momentum at all and posted a 69 to further cement her position on the leaderboard.
Her efforts to rise to the top were hurt in the last round on Sunday because she could not improve her score. Having posted a 71, she tumbled from tie 4th to tie 7th in the third
round.
Despite finishing 7th, Elizabeth seemed happy with her performance as she did well this week. Although her plan was to clinch a victory at Daytona Beach, her performance in the
current season has helped her rise to the third position on the Symetra Tour money list.
“My goal every week is to win and I think that would get me to No. 1,” Elizabeth said.
She has earned $43,416 by recording five top-10 finishes that also includes one victory.
Thanks to her third position on the money list, Elizabeth is sure to receive the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour card — something she has been seeking since she started her
amateur career.
