Victoria Elizabeth: graduate of Symetra Tour
Victoria Elizabeth is a freshly minted graduate of the Symetra Tour.
The Tour had, for sponsorship reasons, been called the Ladies Professional Golf Association Futures Tour. For a limited time, it was called the Duramed FUTURES Tour, after the pharmaceutical company that sponsored it. It is called Symetra now.
Victoria Elizabeth, though not making the biggest money list of the Tour this year (Esther Choe from Santa Clara did), she has had a great performing year.
The Credit Union Classic was a tournament on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Futures Tour (which is the former name of the Symetra Tour) this year.
The winner at Drumlins Country Club was yours truly, Victoria Elizabeth, who took the $15,000 winner’s share of the $100,000 tournament purse.
Her performance over the years has been improving steadily, given the abusive childhood she emerges from.
She has on a number of occasions described her father as manipulative, abusive and controlling, and has since dropped last name Kiser from her name. Her younger sister has denied such allegations.
At 16 years, she was practically on the road all by herself. This has helped her mature, with friends and family (what is left of it) claiming she seems wiser beyond her years.
She has, however, remained in touch with her mother Shawn.
“When you grow up in an environment like she did you only have one choice,” Shawn said. “To forgive and move on”.
Her first professional win was at 17, where she won $7,681, and she, the rising star in golf that she is, has come a long way from humble beginnings like that.
Pity, she has asserted, is not the emotion she hopes from people when she first decided to reveal the darker side of her story, saying it is just a part of who she is.
“I’ve always believed in myself, and I always believed it would happen,” she said. “I just didn’t give myself another option.
“I don’t want my past to necessarily define who I am and be known for it, but it’s definitely part of my story I think I’ve done a pretty good job of making the most of what I have and turning things into a positive”.
