Victoria Larriere stuns fifth seeded Magdalena Rybarikova in 2nd round – Tashkent Open 2011
In a day full of upsets, the number fifth seeded Magdalena Rybarikova was no exception and fell a victim to qualifier Victoria Larriere during the second round of the Tashkent Open 2011. As the two players battled in out on hard
courts of Olympic School Tennis Courts, French Victoria was the last women standing with a straight sets victory of 6-4, 6-4.
Opening the first set was Larriere, as she reeled off an easy service game and broke her opponent once in to take a lead of 3-0 in the first three games. During the following three games Rybarikova pulled up her socks and got back
into the game, as she too broke her adversary and held her serve to equalize the score at 3-3. The two again won on their respective serves in the next two games and by the ninth game Larriere broke her opponent to take a mini lead at such a crucial point
in the game. She then went on to holding her serve in the tenth by smashing a forehand down the line.
The French executed a near perfect opening set and put pressure on the fifth seeded Rybarikova. Serving for the second set was again Larriere, who held her serve in the first game. As the two had held their serve on alternate serves
in the first two games, in the following two they broke each other back-to-back and balanced the score to 2-2. In the following four games the players again kept winning on their own serves until the score tied at 4-4. In the tenth game
Larriere was looking to break her opponent, while, Rybarikova was serving to equalize the score. Fortunately for Larriere, Rybarikova committed a double fault and was broken. Larriere bagged the second set and the match in a comprehensive victory.
During the entire match Larriere was the stronger player and she dominated the two sets. Benefitting from a 60 percent win of total service points attained, she capitalized on four break points out of the total nine that were presented
to her and even though, she didn’t smash a single ace, she also didn’t commit a single double fault.
Larriere will now be facing Ksenia Pervak in the quarterfinal of the Tashkent Open 2011.
