Victoria in strong position against South Australia in Sheffield Shield
Victoria were in a very good position against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 (SA) in their Sheffield Shield match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). At the close of play on day-three, SA required another 358 runs to win the match, and they had eight wickets remaining
in their second innings.
Victoria had an 85-run first innings lead, and they started their second innings today at 17 for no loss. However, both their openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rogers-c1249, got out after getting starts. Carters was the first man to be dismissed, after scoring 27
runs from 57 balls. He was soon followed by his opening partner, as Rogers was sent back to the pavilion after struggling to score 21 runs off 74 balls.
The trend continued, as Robert Quiney was also out in the 20’s. He managed 26 runs off 63 balls before being dismissed. Victorian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 then came out to the middle, but he also had to take the long walk back to the pavilion after adding just
15 runs to the total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933, who scored just 16 runs.
The hosts top six batsmen failed to capitalise on the starts they got, and the team was struggling for runs. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maxwell-c1493 turned things around for Victoria, as he scored a brilliant century. The 22-year-old played some exceptional shots and lifted
the run-rate of the innings. Maxwell amassed an unbeaten 103 runs from 118 balls. His classy knock included 12 fours and four towering sixes.
Maxwell got some good support from star fast bowler Peter Siddle, as the aggressive player scored 43 runs. He would have liked to score a half-century, but the hosts declared the innings on 294 for six. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 took two wickets
each for their team whereas; Nathan Lyon and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Putland-c1468 grabbed one wicket each.
Chasing 380 runs for victory, SA were in deep trouble, after they lost a couple of early wickets in their second innings. Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Smith-c1654 was sent back to the pavilion after scoring just 11 runs. The fall of wicket brought Lyon to the crease,
who was sent in as a night watchman. However, the move didn’t turn out to be a good one for the SA team, as Lyon got out without troubling the scorers.
At the close of play, SA were 22 for two with opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cameron-Borgas-c1212, who is yet to open his account. Siddle was in good form with both bat and ball. He took both
the wickets which fell in the SA innings.
