I'm planning a move (from Toronto)--which place is better to live in and for what reasons? I'm in my early 20's and plan to work & attend school. Thanks.

  1. my preferrence and experience would say that Vancouver would be the better choice for a place to live. as there is much more resources and activities to do for a student to do while attending school . as well as transportation and entertainment, Vancouver is a little bit cheaper to live in than victoria as everything must be transported to victoria which makes it more expensive to live in.

  2. Vancouver is bigger, more job options, but more commute to get to downtown, vancouver is also pretty fun.. but very busy.

Vancouver has UBC, a very good university.

Victoria has Comossen college and UVIC. Very very great places to go to school.  Victoria is alot of fun. cute, and quiet and very warm people here.

I live in Victoria, honestly i like it better....

  3. VANCOUVER

Sorry, but I have lived in Vancouver since I was born, and I just recently came to Victoria for school (Camosun College for now). So I think I can give you a good comparison.

    Victoria

PROS - Good for school (like the other guy said), mainly because the party scene here sucks. Especially if you are used to the bigger city quality of night-life. There is just no comparison IMO.

CONS - Everything closes at 10pm. It is very hard to find a restaurant to go to after this time.

The shopping is lacking. All the brand name stores such as, Chanel, LV, Hérmes, Gucci, etc. are ALL in Vancouver. Victoria does not have a single one of these.

Racist older White people. I saw it happen, and it was so cruel and ignorant. I would also like to point out that this happened in a very busy center and NO ONE had any reaction =(

There are also a lot of small town people ( places that have a few hundred to a few thousand population) from surrounding areas who come to Victoria, as Victoria is like "going to the big-city" for them. Some of there people are ignorant and stereotype everyone according to gender, age, race, etc. There is a bit of a small town mentality here compared to Vancouver

    Vancouver

Pros - Big city, with lots to offer. There is NOTHING Victoria has that Vancouver doesn't. In fact, Vancouver has a lot more than Victoria. Even the food at grocery stores is fresher, because a lot of Victoria's produce comes from Vancouver. Night-life is great, and all the big DJ's and Concerts happen here. Great mix of different cultures resulting in a lot of different restaurants, festivals, and shopping to choose from.

Most people are kind, and fair. I have never witnessed a racist attack here. People are much more worldly here.

Cons - Nothing that isn't common in a big city. I've travelled around the world (States,Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cuba, Mexico, D.Republic), and I have yet to find a big city as wonderful as Vancouver. It's not perfect of course, but it's pretty awesome. As long as you don't go looking for trouble, you'll be fine. This goes for anywhere in the world =)

So to sum it all up, Victoria is only good for school. Don't let the ads fool you about it being "the garden city". I fell for that and was very disappointed when I got here. Vancouver is just as nicer if not nicer. There are unattractive parts of town here that look like the buildings in a bad part of L.A. Of course Vancouver has a bad neighbourhood too (Hastings on the Downtown end), but just don't come to Victoria expecting it to be something it is not.

  4. u shud see how the neighbourhoods are

    - see the prices an size of the house  ur aiming for

    and search the crime rates

choose the one with the lower crime rate

in my opinion i think vancouver is rly corrupt,, thers too many illicit drugs and things there

but then again theres always someone who does it.

i would choose Victoria if it wer up to me,

    hope this helps =]

  5. Toronto is the best city in Canada!!

    but Vancouver is cool
