Victoria overcome Tasmania in a thrilling encounter
Victoria clinched a victory after a nail biting finish to the Ryobi Cup match against Tasmania in Hobart. The squad from Victoria won the match by one wicket. Tasmania had set a target of 259 runs for Victoria. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 reached the total on the very last
ball of the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 and Mark Cosgrove. The pair continued from where they had left
off in the previous innings and both scored tremendous centuries for their team. They started the innings at 80 runs for the loss of two wickets. Bailey resumed his innings from 30, whereas Cosgrove was unbeaten on 48 until the first innings.
Both players attacked the Victorian bowlers from the very first over and extended their partnership to 221. Cosgrove was the first man to be dismissed in the second innings for Tasmania. It was a little too late because he had already damaged Victoria’s
bowlers. He scored 120 runs off just 113 balls. His innings included eleven 4s and three towering 6s.
It looked as if there was no bowler who could trouble Bailey but the Tasmanian captain was unfortunate to get run-out in the final stages of the Tasmanian innings. However, he scored a brilliant century and hit seven 4s and four 6s in his innings of 107.
Peter Siddle ended up with two wickets in the match for his team. His team-mates, Dirk Nannes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653, took one wicket each for Victoria.
Things looked grim for Victoria but Wade continued to play brilliantly and took his team out of trouble with a solid half-century. His score of 67 runs from 103 balls was a ray of hope for his team.
Robert Quiney and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Hill-c1955 played good cameos of 36 and 30 to help the team chase down the total. However, wickets kept on falling at regular intervals which almost left the batting line-up diminished.
There wasn't much expected from the 22-year-old Glenn Maxwell, who blazed his way to 61 off just 27 balls. He struck eight 4s and three massive 6s in his innings before he got out. It was Siddle, who guided his team to victory with an unbeaten 25 off 16
balls in the end. Maxwell was named player-of-the-match following his explosive performance in the match.
