Victoria post a decent target for Tasmania
Victoria and Tasmania take on each other in the Twenty20 Big Bash in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 piled a target of 108 runs batting first.
The toss was won by the Tasmanian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 and he decided to bowl first in slightly overcast conditions. The start to the innings was not good for Victoria as they lost their top three batsmen for just 20 runs.
The wickets that fell included the Victoria captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933 and Glenn Maxwell.
The innings was then held together by two foreign players Matt Prior and Dwayne Bravo. Prior is not a member of the English team’s ODI and Twenty20 squad but he definitely proved that he can play all three formats of the game with his brilliant batting performance
against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854.
The star English wicketkeeper scored 51 runs off just 29 balls before getting out. He hit five 4s and two towering 6s in his innings to take his team out of trouble. Bravo also played well to score his 22 runs.
Bravo didn’t take too many risks as three wickets had already fallen, Prior on the other hand was leading the charge with his stellar stroke play. Both the batsmen amassed a 61 run partnership to guide their team to a competitive total.
Apart from these two batsmen, there was not a single batsman who scored in double figures and the third highest score came from Wade who managed nine runs.
Although Ben Hilfenhaus and Xavier Doherty were the bowlers who gave early breakthroughs to their team, it was Rana Naved-ul-Hasan who ran through the Victorian middle order. Rana took three wickets in his allotted three overs and got good support from Jason
Krejza, as the tall off-spinner also took three wickets from the two overs he bowled.
There was a good recovery made by the Victorian batsmen after a few quick wickets fell at the top of the order. However, the damage was done by the bowlers who didn’t allow the batsmen to take the game away from Tasmania.
Tasmania will be eying to chase down this score easily. They will only be posed a threat by Peter Siddle who will lead the Victorian attack.
