Victoria v South Australia – Sheffield Shield, 2012/13 (15th Match) – Match Update – Redbacks secure 9-wicket win
A fierce bowling attack spearheaded by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Putland-c1468 proved to be the South Australia Redbacks’ main strength as they went on to secure a comprehensive 9-wicket win over the Victoria Bushrangers, in the 15th match of the ongoing Sheffield Shield,
played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from November 23 to 26.
Having chosen to field first after winning the toss on day one, the Redbacks’ Putland (36-15-64-7) proceeded to launch a fierce assault, backed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chadd-Sayers-c49520 (25-5-72-2). Putland ensured both a steady fall of wickets, and effective run restriction, and
the Bushrangers were unable to face up to the challenge.
Skipper Cameron White (88) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rogers-c1249 (39) both managed to get starts, but were unable to capitalise on them. The
rest failed to chip in with anything substantial, and batsmen such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maxwell-c60189 were dismissed on duck. By the second day of play, the Bushrangers were all out at 346.
The Redbacks’ first innings was driven by centurion http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Ludeman-c2672 (24),
remained mediocre, but despite the best efforts of Hastings (26-8-66-5) and Maxwell (17.2-2-42-4), the Bushrangers were unable to restrict their opponents fully, and the Redbacks managed to reach 443 before they were all out on day three.
Player of the Match Putland (25-13-28-5) once again led the charge against Victoria, and played a crucial role in restricting them to a low second innings total, with the help, yet again, of Sayers (22-8-50-4). Only four batsmen were allowed to surpass single-digit
scores this time around, and Handscomb (50) was the only one who managed to make a decent contribution, while the rest – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 (16), and Hastings (13) – remained lacklustre.
The final day of play saw Victoria all out at 132, and the subsequent 36-run target was easily chased down by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Klinger-c76093 (18*), all of whom got the Redbacks up to 36 with 9 wickets to
spare.
