Victoria v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 – 13th Sheffield Shield Match 2011-12 - Third Day’s Update
At stumps on day three of the 13th Sheffield Shield match of the Australian domestic season of 2011-12, Victoria required another 186 runs with six wickets in hand against Tasmania at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), on November
24, 2011.
The visitors started the third day at 214 runs for the loss of eight wickets and it was widely predicted that their tail would not be able to show a lot of resistance against a quality bowling attack like Victoria’s.
However, this was not the case as the wicketkeeper/batsman, Tom Triffit took the initiative to the Tasmanian bowlers and found some extra-ordinary support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brendan-Drew-c1192. The two of them scored 83 runs for the ninth wicket partnership
and sealed the advantage for their team.
Tasmania managed to score 288 runs in 77 over before being bowled out. Triffit remained the top scorer with 70 runs which came of 68 balls in which he struck 11 boundaries. Drew also shined on the third day with 44 unbeaten runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jayde-Matthew-Herrick-c66694 was the star with the ball as he picked up four crucial scalps for his team.
Given a massive target of 412 runs to chase in the last innings of the match, no one expected the home team to challenge Tasmania but Victoria surprised everybody and came up with a heartening performance led by the opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rogers-c1249,
who struck a brilliant ton and is still at the crease.
The disappointing thing for Victoria was the fact that apart from Rogers, none of the top order batsmen were able to convert their starts into big knocks, which was the need of the hour in chasing down this mountain like target.
At the close of play, Victoria had scored 226 runs for the loss of four wickets. If the lower-middle order assists Rogers, the home team may achieve a fascinating victory.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jackson-Munro-Bird-c65187, who picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the match was the best bowler once again for the visitors as he grabbed a couple of scalps.
Let us hope that the last day of the match produces some more thrilling cricket.
