Victoria v Western Australia – Sheffield Shield, 2012/13 (11th Match) – Match Update
The Victoria Bushrangers claimed an easy 5-wicket win over the Western Australia Warriors during the 11th match of the ongoing Sheffield Shield, played from November 1 to 3 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Victoria won the toss and decided to field first – all five of their bowlers then went on to claim two wickets each as they succeeded in limiting the Warriors, all out, to 248 on the first day of play. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CJ-McKay-c1265 (who went on to win
the Player of the Match award) remained the most parsimonious, with the former registering an economy rate of 2.92 and the latter 2.45, during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861’ first innings.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-North-c1982 (87) were the only two batsmen who managed to register respectable scores. Out of the remainder of the batting order, only four other batsmen managed to get starts (which they were unable to convert into solid
scores), while the rest failed to move beyond single-digit scores. By the 80th over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 were all out at 248.
Victoria did not fare any better during their first innings, owing largely to the assaults of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Hogan-c1956, all of whom picked up 2 scalps each. Opener Chris Rogers (43) and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 (34) remained the only batsmen from the top and middle order who managed to register decent scores, while the highest score came from McKay (65), who came in at number 10. On day 2, the Bushrangers found themselves all out at 219.
The Warriors' second innings was worse than their first, as the batsmen crumbled under the assaults of Pattinson (16-4-42-4), McKay (16-4-52-3), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945 was the top-scorer
for the team, remaining unbeaten at 40. The team only managed to work their way up to a total of 138 before they were all out by the 50th over.
The 168-run target did not pose too many problems for the Bushrangers, and despite the efforts of Behrendorff (10-2-24-3), sound contributions from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933 (50*) saw Victoria to 171, with
5 wickets still remaining.
