Victoria v Western Australia – Sheffield Shield 2012/13 (11th Match) – Match Update [Day 2]
After finishing their first innings all out at 248 on day 1, Western Australia launched a fierce bowling attack which saw Victoria restricted, all out, to 219 – however, the Bushrangers’ James Pattinson and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CJ-McKay-c1265 did not allow the Warriors to get ahead
of themselves, and reduced them to 76 for 5 during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865’s second innings on day 2, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 2.
The first day of play had seen Victoria winning the toss and electing to field first. The team had then proceeded to launch a fierce bowling attack, which saw all five of their bowlers picking up 2 wickets each, to reduce Western Australia all out to 248.
However, the second day saw the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 (8-2-29-2) chipped in with supporting
performances.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881 (34), however, attempted to get the innings back on track with a 71-run partnership
for the fourth wicket.
Their joint efforts got the team total up to 106, after which Finch was trapped lbw by Marsh, while Rogers was dismissed in similar fashion by Behrendorff. A slew of mediocre performances followed – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Keath-c986 was trapped lbw by Marsh on 10, wicketkeeper
batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PM-Siddle-c2197 (5) was sent packing by Johnson.
A valiant effort by lower-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 (18) and Clint McKay (65), who set up a 83-run stand for the ninth wicket, saw Victoria working their way up to 218 before McKay was snapped up by Hogan, and Pattinson by Johnson, with the Bushrangers
finishing all out at 219.
The Warriors appeared to be firmly in the lead – however, their second innings did not proceed as smoothly as they would have hoped, owing largely to Pattinson (10-3-19-2) and McKay (10-4-20-2). Top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-Whiteman-c88206 (0) and skipper Michael Hussey
(3) were both sent back to the pavilion by McKay after registering paltry scores, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jayde-Matthew-Herrick-c66694.
The 25th over saw both http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 (8*) and Tom Triffitt (20*) at the crease, Western Australia managed to reach 76 for
5 by stumps on day 2 – a position which appears precarious, despite the 105-run lead they still maintain.
