First Day’s Update
In the 13th Sheffield Shield match of the Australian domestic season of 2011-12, Victoria was trailing by 199 runs with seven first innings wickets in hand against Tasmania at stumps on day one, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), on November
22, 2011.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first on a classic MCG track but the decision did not turn out to be a great one as Tasmania lost its top six wickets for only 109 runs on the board, and was looking down the barrel. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matt-Johnston-c1920 and
wicketkeeper/batsman, Tom Triffit constructed a brilliant partnership for the seventh wicket and accumulated 72 precious runs, saving their team from complete disaster.
As a result of the resistance shown by the late order batsmen, the visiting team was able to score 217 runs before being bowled out in the 85th over of the day.
Johnston remained the top scorer for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 as he scored 59 runs off 120 balls in which he struck two fours and three massive hits out of the park. Triffitt scored 40 runs, for which he consumed 78 balls and smashed six boundaries. Mark Cosgrove also shined
with 40 important runs.
Australian international, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jayde-Matthew-Herrick-c66694 picked two scalps, while Scott Boland and Cameron White
picked up a wicket each to help their team’s cause.
In reply, the home team was off to a poor start as they lost three wickets in one over and were in huge trouble at stumps with 18 runs for the loss of three top order batsmen. Robert Quiney and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380 will resume the innings tomorrow for Victoria.

The two teams failed to read the wicket properly as there is some juice for the seam bowlers, which was brilliantly exploited by Mckay and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bird-c48123. However, this match has all the makings of a thrilling finish and let us hope that the weather remains fine for
the next three days.
