Victoria win against Wayamba, wait for other results
The Victorian Bushrangers ran home easy winners in their Champions League T20 game against the Wayamba Elevens side on Monday at the Centurion, winning by eight wickets to notch up their third win out
of the four games that they have played. However, it is still not certain whether Victoria will make it through to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Wayamba batted first and as has been the case throughout the tournament, lost a couple of early wickets. Jeevantha Kulatunga was bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653, who was playing his first game, while Mahela Udawatte
was run-out through an excellent effort by Clint McKay. Both the batsmen got ducks.
Fortunately, a third-wicket stand between the Wayamba captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jehan-Mubarak-c66822 and Mahela Jayawardene seemed to have taken the side out of trouble. On a tough-looking track where the ball was bouncing unevenly,
the pair added 72 runs for the third wicket to take the score onto 81/2 in 10 overs.
At this stage, a target of 160 looked possible, and that would have put Wayamba in an invincible position. However, the side collapsed after Mubarak departed for 44, scored from just 30 balls. Once the captain
was dismissed, the rest of the side batted like novices, throwing their wickets away like they had an early flight to catch. Three more ducks followed the initial two, and apart from Jayawardene (51) and Mubarak, none of the other batsmen got to double figures.
Wayamba lost their last eight wickets for 25 runs to capitulate to 106 all out.
The target was not big for the Bushrangers, but they had also to look at the net run-rate scenario and hence went after the bowling from the word go. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933 did lose their wickets, but
David Hussey’s unbeaten 47 took them home with 40 balls and eight wickets to spare.
As thing stand now, Victoria’s win gives them six points from four games. The Warriors have six from three while Chennai have four from three. Chennai meet the Warriors in the last game for both the sides.
If Chennai win, that would put them at six as well and that would mean that the three sides are tied at six apiece. This will bring the net run-rate (NRR) scenario into the picture.
Currently, Warriors have an NRR of 0.975, Chennai have an NRR of 2.57 while Victoria are at 0.37. For Victoria to qualify, either Chennai need to lose to Warriors, or Warriors need to lose so badly to the
Super Kings that their NRR goes below http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859’s NRR.
