Victorian International 2012: Jacinta Joe, Andra Whiteside clear first round of Women’s Doubles
Women’s Doubles experts Jacinta Joe and Andra Whiteside trounced Jennifer Tam-Alice Wu in first round of Li Ning Victorian International and powered their way to the quarter-finals on June 29, 2012.
The victorious duo showed elevated craft in this hard fought encounter and placed favourable figures of 12-21, 21-19 and 15-21.
This 40-minute exercise fetched a quarter-final spot for them and now they will test their chemistry against another Australian pair, Ann Louise Slee-Eugenia Tanaka.
There was lot of sensation in first round match as Jacinta and Andra snatched opening match point with an electrifying performance and then, despite of losing second set, enthralled their opponents in the decider.
The battle heated up when they unleashed flurry of power packed strokes in the beginning and gathered five consecutive points.
Jennifer and Alice could not come out of their spell throughout the first half and knelt down with 5-11 total before the break.
After the interval, Jacinta and Andra injected more intensity in their attack and pushed their rivals into the dark.
They raised their lead by putting mountainous margin of 16-8 and then magnified the impact with concluding figure of 21-12.
However, they lost their touch in following game when the opposing team counterbalanced the situation with a strong backlash.
The Australian ladies employed unbeatable tactics to ensure their presence in the contest. They kept a low profile in the start but stunned their competitors with a dazzling performance in final moments.
In first half of the set, they were trailing behind until 5-8 but couple of uninterrupted rallies helped them to stand equal before the announcement of the break.
Later part of the game saw them making quick progress from 11-13 to 16-14 score position. At this critical stage they showed superb coordination and finished second segment of the show with 21-13.
The twosome of Jacinta and Andra, who belong to Australia and Fiji respectively, proved their class in this tense situation as they sealed the victory in splendid manner.
They maintained an upper hand from very first shot to last one and did not give their challengers even a single opportunity to bounce back. They stamped their supremacy with a notable lead in final margin of 21-15.
