Victorian International: Ruethaichanok Laisuan grabs Women’s Singles title – Badminton news
Thailand’s budding shuttler, Ruethaichanok Laisuan, continued impressing the crowd with her staggering skills and wrapped up the Women’s Singles title at 2013 Li Ning Victorian International on Sunday, June 30, in Australia.
In the final encounter, the in-form Ruethaichanok overpowered her higher ranked compatriot, Hemrachatanun Mattana, in a convincing manner by consuming just 30 minutes on court.
The un-seeded Ruethaichanok, who remained impressive in the execution of her game plan throughout the tournament, did not lose her focus at any stage in the final battle and proved that she is ready to take bigger challenges.
Ruethaichanok worked really hard in the final encounter of Victorian International and she remained successful in defeating Mattana in straight games with a close 21-16 and 22-20 score on the board.
On the other hand, the eighth seeded Mattana was not expecting such a tremendous performance from her lower ranked opponent. She tried her best to create pressure of Ruethaichanok but failed to play her normal game and went down without winning any game.
In the first game, both shuttlers played to their full potential and kept the local crowd engaged with their remarkable attacking play. No one could create a comfortable gap at the initial stage.
However, Ruethaichanok was quite patient to find opportunities for earning points. Her incredible temperament was the key that earned her a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the lower ranked Ruethaichanok stretched her lead without showing any mercy to Mattana who failed to reduce the gap at any stage.
Ruethaichanok progressed smoothly in the ending half of opening set and she won the set with a convincing 21-16 total on the scoreboard.
In the following set, Mattana also geared up her speed from the starting points. She played positive badminton this time and did not let Ruethaichanok to dominate the affairs.
However, Ruethaichanok again remained patient and did not commit unforced mistakes. Both shuttlers were close on the board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, they continued playing attacking and positive game until the score reached at 20-20. At this thrilling stage, Ruethaichanok showed her brilliance and managed to win the set with a close 22-20 score on the board.
