Question:

Victorians against Interstate teams...wth? What is up with it?

Why is it that the Victorians on Yahoo think that they are so much better than all the other Australians at AFL? And whenever they are at the bottom of the ladder they say it is unfair because they don't have scouts at the WAFL or SANFL, or it is their game no one elses or whatever other lame excuse they can find. Or they go around saying everyone hates Victoria get over yourselves no one cares.

I never even knew that anyone cared about what state their team is from compared to others.

Give it up and stop feeling sorry for yourselves! All the great teams now spent their fair share of time on the bottom of the ladder and they didn't have these great big sooks like I've been reading. seriously give it up, all the teams will have their time to shine, just be patient.

Anyway, what is your opinion on this 'apparent' rivalry between states?

(I am not basing this on all Victorians or being biased, but I am basing it on some of the answers and questions I have read on Yahoo.)

  1. I think you should be saying Collingwood against WA because after being over in Melbourne at finals time you would think they are the only club in Victoria.

  2. I totally agree with you there. I have nothing against the Victorian sides, heck I used to follow North Melbourne before Adelaide came in, but I can not stand the bullsh*t that goes on the TV. Obviously you must have read my answer on a previous question, (if not well I am not going to repeat it) so you would know how I feel about the Victorian commentary and the media, they are so biased.

Enough said now, I better shut up.

  3. theres no excuse for teams that suck, teams are professionaly run these days. its just some clubs have no idea. west coast are the best team in the comp at the moment because every area is covered. they have the best recruitment and player development. look at kangaroos saying theyl offer judd a million next season, honestly wats that going to do for them? theyl have to give up valuble draft picks for a start, so once again they miss out on younger potential super stars, where as west coast could still win priemaships without judd and at the same time use the picks for the next generation of players coming through to insure a powerfull club for years to come

  4. Firstly - rivalry implies competition, and when you consider the last six flags have come from interstate clubs, calling it a rivalry is actually flattering the Victorian clubs.  The truth is though, these things are cyclical, it's taken some good luck and good management on behalf of the interstate clubs to put themselves in these positions in the first place.  Here in the West everyone was discussing how it's boom times for football here late last year, only five years earlier, the two WA clubs were 14th and 16th!!

Merely personal opinion - but I honestly believe that the interstate clubs are just better at developing young players.  Having all those high draft picks means nothing if you can't develop them into quality players.  What the Victorian teams need to do is work out, are the interstate clubs smarter drafters, or just have better systems in place?

  5. Here here.  I agree with you.

I go for teams not states.

  6. you are so right, the vics can not get over the intersate teams being in the comp. or even  being better than them,  they live in the dark ages and will never see the light.    the rivalry is a great thing, specially if you are a wce fan..lol.  its great for the game, thats what sport thrives on.  so wake up and smell the coffee vics.  its a national sport and its here to stay.. get some decent coaches and pay the players less, then some clubs wont be in so much financial trouble.    AFL  rules!!

  7. well victorians have always been like that and feel it is their right to be superior to he interstate teams as the competition was founded in Victoria. To say that they don't have any scouts in WA or Sa is rediculous as they should maybe look at the Brisbane team that won 3 in a row because more than half those sides were from Melbourne plus they do have scouts in these states maybe they just arn't making the right decisions hehe. I'm from South Australia and have enjoyed the interstate success whether it be port crows sydney or west coast it's quite amusing

  8. i take it I'm one of the yahoo users your talking about?,if so come out and say it rather than saying some Victorians,Ive got thick skin my friend, that said, personally i don't actually care all that much i mean it doesn't keep me up at night, just thought id ask a couple of questions on the subject of interstate rivalry and see what responses were out there, mate i don't feel sorry for myself or the Vic clubs and i don't see any harm in taking the p**s from time to time-so lighten up buddy if you don't like the question don't answer-simple.

p.s my opinion on interstate rivalry is that its all part of and good for the great game we have.
