Victoria’s Wildcat and Savvy Supreme seek redemption in the Sometime Thing Stakes on 15 July
Both 3-year-old fillies, Victoria’s Wildcat and Savvy Supreme, had a tough time in their last outing in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes.
However, it would be fair to consider the tough competition the fillies had to endure and not to mention the muddy track.
Victoria’s Secret with a single graded stakes race win to show for her two year’s in racing, finished fourth in the Acorn Stakes in the 1 mile event under jockey Kent Desormeaux.
Savvy Supreme elevated to a mile from 6 furlongs or there about throughout her career, found it a little hard to cope with the distance and pressure of good runners around her.
The daughter of Distorted Humour finished a disappointing sixth under jockey John Velazquez.
The three-year-old fillies have been provided with a chance to redeem themselves in the $60,000 Sometime Thing Stakes at Belmont Park on 15 July, 2011.
Cutting back in distance and class, the seven furlongs event will certainly suit the fillies more than the 1 mile in the Acorn Stakes.
Trained by Robert Hess Jr. for owners Robert Bayer, Victoria Beyer and Andre Rosen, Victoria’s Wildcat broke her maiden in her fifth attempt in an allowance race on 27 November, 2010, at Churchill Downs.
Prior to that, the daughter of Bellamy Road ran for maiden special weight races, but couldn’t make headway in any of them as she came fourth twice at Del Mar once at Keeeneland and a second place finish at Churchill Downs.
In the 2011 season, Victoria’s Wildcat has 2 wins out of 3 starts, including the Grade 3 Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs on dirt.
Victoria’s Wildcat will break from post 5 at Belmont park for Sometime Thing Stakes under jockey Kent Desormeaux.
On the other hand, Savvy Supreme has been roused by John Velazquez throughout her two-year-old career.
The bay filly broke her maiden at Gulfstream Park at a six furlongs event on 2 April, 2011.
Before entering the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes, Savvy Supreme ran the Classy Mirage at Belmont Park on 18 May 2011. Winning the six furlong event ahead of Soundwave, landing her first meaningful victory.
Savvy Supreme’s run looked promising in the Acorn Stakes as she went on to set the pace, but the distance of 1 mile proved to be a little too far for the 3-year-old as she was held back by a many and finished sixth.
Her connections would be hoping that she springboard herself to form in the Sometime Thing Stakes on 15 July.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Savvy Supreme ran below her connections expectations stated Jonathan Thomas, assistant to Todd Pletcher. Further insisted that the filly looked great in training and continues to train well and they are hopeful that cutting back
to distance would do her a world of good.
Victoria’s Wildcat and Savvy Supreme apart from each other could face tough competition from Indian Lilly or A Story of Revenge.
