Victors Serenade has solid claims for John Smith´s Extra Smooth Novices´ Chase at Chepstow
Victors Serenade needs just a soft ground to outpace his opponents in the Class 3 John Smith´s Extra Smooth Novices´ Chase, being hosted by Chepstow on Saturday, April 14th.
The seven-year-old is coming into this race after two back to back handicap wins. After staying out of action for more than three months, Anthony Honeyball’s trainee made a fantastic comeback, registering a comprehensive victory
in the Sun Trade Windows Handicap Chase in February.
In his subsequent trip at Ffos Las, Victors Serenade came up with an even better performance. He secured the top position by beating Politeo by 11 lengths in the Betfair. Don't Settle For Less Handicap Chase.
With two forceful victories under his belt, the Michael & Angela Bone-owned is full of spirit. He has recorded four wins so far in his career and it is a good chance for him to add another to his tally.
The 3-mile event is scheduled to begin at 15:45 GMT. Taking part in the £4,549 event are: Victors Serenade, Roalco De Farges, Minella Stars, Tullow Boy, Super Directa, My Friend Sandy and Leg Iron.
Roalco De Farges has been out of form over the past few weeks. On March 17, the seven-year-old displayed a below par performance and as a result, finished fifth in the Betfred Midlands Grand National Chase Handicap.
Since he is out of rhythm these days, he is expected to make a few mistakes on the course. Therefore, it would be a bit risky to place money on him.
On the other hand, Minella Stars just requires a slice of luck to grab the glory. The seven-year-old has been unlucky since his third consecutive win at the start of last year. In his most recent outing, Paul Nicholls’ trainee
missed the top place by a few lengths.
Tullow Boy is also worth considering. In December last year, the eight-year-old made an impressive debut, sealing the top spot in the Persimmon Homes At Ffos Las Novices' Chase.
According to our calculations, both Minella Stars and Tullow Boy will test Victors Serenade’s racing skills. The Anthony Honeyball-trained is in good shape to complete his hat-trick, but it would not be an easy trip for him.
