The 2012 CEV Women’s beach Volleyball Continental Cup Finals are scheduled to take place from June 22-24 in Russia.
The Victory Park in Russia’s capital city Moscow, which recently created an excellent field of play for the SWATCH FIVB Moscow Grand Slam Tournament, will hold the Continental Cup Finals. A total of 16 female tandems from eight countries will be on board
to compete for the Olympic ticket. According to the defined rules of the competition, only one country will earn the Olympic spot via Continental Cup.
After proving their endeavours in the earlier stages of the tournament, duos from Great Britain, Austria, Spain, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, and Switzerland will join the influential final stage of the Continental Cup. Each country will have two teams
(two-player teams) in the competition.
Host country Russia will be represented by Evgenia Ukolova-Ekaterina Khomyakova and Anastasia Vasina - Anna Vozakova, who have great many plans for the upcoming tournament. They are enjoying a great form and have undergone extensive training and practice
for the final phase of the tournament.
Speaking on the behalf of other players, Russian star Evgenia Ukolova said, “We are all looking forward to the start of this tournament. Every athlete dreams about the Olympics and we have the advantage of playing in front of our fans as we try to fulfil
this dream. I am sure that the support of our fans will help us win the competition and finally pocket our ticket to London.”
According to Ukolova, they are ready to rumble and fight for the Olympic berth. Russian tandems will obviously have the competitive edge of playing at home and emotional support of local fans will also enhance their performance. Hence, they have brighter
prospects to make it to the Olympic Games.
The preliminary inquiry and technical meeting of the participants of the competition will be held on the day-1, while the real action will start with quarterfinal matches on Friday. In the opening fixtures, GB duos will take on Dutch counterparts. Italy
and Spain will clash in the second match. Greeks will go against Swiss duos, whereas hosts Russia will be challenged by Austrian pairs. All matches will follow the “Country vs. Country” formula. However, the teams will be allowed to play a golden set in the
case of a tie.
Successful teams will advance to the semi-finals, which will be played on Saturday. Eventually, two countries will collide in the final showdown on Sunday and the winner of the competition will be announced.
The arrangements have been finalised and the local organisers are quite optimistic to receive huge crowd at the final phase of Olympic Qualifiers. In addition to the main event, they have also prepared some special activities for spectators.
The clock is ticking down quickly and soon the action will start. Right now, the air is full of various opinions and guesses but the situation will get evident as the teams will take centre stage. Check back for more updates.
