Victory in Cincinnati Masters’ opener gives Murray confidence for the U.S. Open
The British ace tennis sensation Andy Murray is no doubt in his winning form these days, preparing for the upcoming Grand Slam U.S. Open that is scheduled to start at the end of this month. Murray, despite all the odds, seems to be a serious contender for this title.
Currently, he is competing in the Cincinnati Masters 2010 with a display of matchless caliber followed by some great performance. In one of his recent matches at the tournament, Murray thrashed Jeremy Chardy after an exciting battle. He secured the victory by 6-3, 6-7(3-7), 6-2 and resultantly made his way through to the third round. Despite the win, Murray seemed a little shaky and frustrated. For him, the match started really well and he clutched the first set victory pretty convincingly by 6 points to 3 but the second set proved to be a test for him as he was challenged remarkably by Chardy. At one point, Murray seemed to be losing the touch. Despite collecting the break serve points, he struggled to adjust his momentum and failed to convert points while serving but he still managed to keep his head and hopes alive.
The 23-year old will now face Ernests Gulbis of Latvia. Ernests is also in good form and has made his way to the third round pretty impressively. Earlier, he had defeated Austria’s Juergen Melzer in a nerve wrenching match by 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, and 7-6 (7-5). The third round match against Ernest will surely be not an easy pill for Murray to swallow and he will have to give in his full performance if he is to emerge victorious. After the match with Chardy, Murray told reporters that everything didn’t seemed to be going according to his plans that frustrated him. He said that he was not satisfied with the way he performed but he is still confident and keeping his hopes and struggle alive.
Chardy presented him with a strong challenge especially with his strong forehand shots and made Murray suffer. Now Murray believes that his next match with Ernests will also be a tough one as according to him Ernests is another fine player. However, Murray’s winning form in Cincinnati Masters has given him a strong psychological advantage which will surely help him in the U.S Open. He has already boasted that he would be eying his current tournament as a practice for the upcoming US Grand Slam.
