Video Camera Recommendations?

I am expecting a baby in 4 weeks, and am looking to purchase a video camera.

I have heard that the mini-dv format is a good option, and have been looking at Sony or Canon.

Any recommendations?

mini dv is highly recommended as it;'s cheap, easy to store and generally more reliable than other options. plus the best part is that the resolution is still better compared with consumer branded HDD and dvd options.

canon and sony for a simple camera are pretty much the same. they are both good quality and are easy to use.

the slight esge would be the canon as some shoot widescreen, this is a good bonus if available.

prices vary greatly on cams depending on features. expect to pay around US$300 for a good starting out cam.

find a comparison site and do some homework on features vs price.
