  1. It's pretty much a law of nature that 90% of the video that people shoot is complete rubbish - you'll reduce the size and make it much more watchable just by editing it.  You can do that with Windows Movie Maker.  I'm assuming that your camcorder is MiniDV, in which case the size of the video will drop a lot when it's converted to the MPEG-2 version that'll be burned to DVD.  Try DVD Flick for that..

  2. Well If you like your video, I suggest you to not go around any free software.

For suiting your video to the DVD, depending on the DVD (9GB or 4GB) you could reduce the bitrate of the video or audio or both.

There are several softwares which you could use, There are professionals, High qualities, Consumer ones and....

If you want a professional one, I can introduce you these:

    1. For MPEG, MPEG2 Video Editing you can use:

    TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress

    2. For Wmv Editing you could use: Windows movie maker (Which is free, if you have windows) - Ulead media studio.

If you want Consumer ones, I can introduce you these:

    1. For MPEG, MPEG2 and all other, You could use: Replay

    Converter

    2. For All formats instead of MPEG, MPEG2, You could use:

    IVideoMAX Video Converter 3.0.2

----So depending on what you want to do(Consumer or pro - DVD4GB or DVD9GB) You could choose different ways.

For Example in professional way, You can import the video to the time line, Edit some things like color, Sharpness, Contrast, Etc. And in the End save your video with a different bitrate and frame(Lower the bitrate and frame)

And in the consumer way, You can convert the video to it's own format but with a lower bitrate(You can do it with Replay Converter).

    THE LAST WAY:

If you just don't want to touch the video, you could use Compressors Like Win zip or Winrar. But Compressing a video such as a 11GB one is going to take at least 6 hours. And I'm just telling you, Vids and Songs are not going to be compressed. And  maybe if you would compress your Vid, You would find it 12GB(I experienced it)

So if someone answered your Question like Compress it, It's not going to work.

    Hope it helps.
