Video Games & Plasma/LCD Question?

Whats the risk of playing video games on a lcd or plamsa tv regularly, 6-8hrs daily. I was thinking to by a new tv but heard a rumour that plasmas can only be played for an hour on and lcd tvs have a slow reaction time with video games(i believe it's called response rate/refresh rate). Would either or be specifically worse for online lag?

If i were to put the settings on above average(such as 'vivid') and play 6-8hrs daily on a 50" plasma screen which was manufactured in 2007+ would i be subdued to burn-in? Do LCD's Burn in at all?

On a side question, can i play ANY video game system on a plasma/lcd tv for a prolonged period of time? ex Xbox 360, PS2, N64

  1. Plasma sets use phosphors which, when a stationary scene is left on the screen for an extended period, can overheat the phosphor.  Once it is overheated the phosphor in that area of the screen can no longer generate the same level of light it normally would.   This results in a "ghost" image on the screen.   LCD sets do not use phosphors and are, or all intents and purposes,  immune to burn-in.   Most new LCD sets use active matrix technology and have very good response times, thus will show action scenes with no noticeable lag.  The screen refresh rates are also as good as plasma sets.  Contrast ratio, from brightest white to darkest "black"  has improved greatly on LCD sets but are not as good as plasma.

ANY stationary scene left on the screen of a plasma set for several hours (such as some parts of video games) will result in burn-in.   The brighter (or more vivid) the setting the worse it is.
