Video/PC firewire transfer

Trying to transfer from my JVC GR-D50AA digital video camera to my PC via firewire using Roxio/windows software. The camera is able to be activated (stop/start etc) from the software controls but no data is transfered to the computer.Hope someone can help. Cheers.
