Video but no audio for direct tv HDTV?

we just recently purchased an HDTV receiver from Direct Tv, and i have an Emerson Flat Screen HDTV compatible tv. we set it up, plugged the plugs in the correct sockets. We turned on the tv and saw the olympics were on, the picture was better than what we expected, only problem was, there was no sound. whats the problem?

ive looked through the menu, checked the wires, and everything else. but still no sound..can someone help out?

Check the dish reciever volume control. Some of these boxes have their own internal volume setting. Also how is it hooked up? Which inputs are you using? You may need to run sepate patch-cords for the audio from the box to the set of inputs you are using. If you are using HDMI then the sound would be included with the video and you may need to unplug the tv for a couple minute and replug it back in to reset the system
