Video camera and computer question?

Question

Suppose I shoot a video with the video camera. I can get it on the computer, but can I take the sound away from the movie and somehow save the sound alone as an MP3 (or any audio file type) on my computer? Is there a specific program to use?

lots of video editing programs can do this, i use adobe after effects to make some live mp3s from concert recordings.  i think however that windows movie maker might be able to do it, which is free if you have xp or higher, if not try quick time pro, like 30 bucks or something from apple.com
