  1. Any piece of junk will do for blogs, youtube etc. It will make life easier for you if it's mini-dv.

What tends to happen though is that after awhile you will want to use your recordings for some higher purpose - like a dvd, or a little production of some sort. If your original recordings were good quality, then they will look good on dvd too.

  2. look, anything can be suitable for a video blog, even your camera phone.

youtube screens at a resolution of 320 x 240. most handy cams will be 720 x 480 so that's more than enough.

cam phones are up to 640 x 480 but generally are few and far between.

you might want to consider a cam that you can us for more than just youtube. main thing to consider is getting a mini dv tape system. hdd and disc suck. the res is bad and it's not worth it.

you might want to consider something that has a separate mic input so you can buy and external mic so the sound is much better. remember, people except grainy images but when sound is bad they'll switch off.

apart from that shop around and see whats suitable for you.

    good luck and enjoy blogging.
