Question:

Video camera memory question?

My video camera holds about 20 minutes of film (I know, not a lot because the memory card is small) but I was recording with it today and it was about 10 minutes long, then I tried to review it and it got deleted. Then I looked and it said that it would only hold 2 minutes of film from now on. I tried to see if there was still a video somewhere, but I don't see it. Why did it do this? What can I do to get the memory back?

  1. if there is any video on the card that you CAN get to, be sure to copy it to your computer... After you have done that, use the camera to format the card. There is a file on that card taking up space - you know this - but for some reason, it is not visible to anything.

Since you did not tell us the camera, we cannot know or guess what might have happened to corrupt this video file.

Formatting the memory card wipes everything from it.

Instructions on formatting the card will be in the camera's manual - though there is likely just a menu selection in the camera's options menu.
