  1. It depends not only the encoding quality you have, but on the format as well... mpeg-2 videos (like file for DVD) are generally the largest, AVI DivX format files (those are the files, in which movies are shared over internet) has very good quality and it is much smaller (like 5x smaller) than mpeg 2... and wmv (Windows Media Video) format is even smaller than that - thats the format mostly use to e-mail or to post youtube video.

So, depending in which format is youre source, you should convert it into something smaller, like wmv.

Windows Movie Maker can do it for you with the simplest setting - just run the program... Click on "Import video" on left side.. navigate to your video file and it will show in the windows as "assets" or "Media files" (forgot the exact name and I don't have the program here now).

Then drag the videofile and drop it onto the timeline on the bottom of the screen.

Then on the left side in menu there is "Export" or "save as" or something like that. Choose "for e-mailing" and the program will create "small" file with reasonable quality.

    Have fun.. good luck

  2. Just lower the quality or convert it to a smaller format....

To lower the quality you have a couple of Professional programs like Final Cut Pro and Sony Vegas 8.

Use the more recommended way and compress it to change it to a lighter format with lower quality.

    Try Xilisoft Video converter.

  3. You can also cut the video into two videos.

or you can adjust the video quality and re-save or re-export the video

The next option is a bit more tricky.  Depending on your editing program, you can also re-save or re-export your video in another format with more compression.  Your 3 best choices will be wmv, mp4, or mov (h.264).

You can do all of these quickly in Quicktime Pro for $30.  Quicktime will allow you to open your video file, adjust the quality, and save the video in a matter of minutes without the need to cut the video in two or change the format
