True and goes on today. The pelts are white, so any expensive white fur. For awhile now people have used spray-Paint to tag the seals fur making them worthless for the fur trade.

Most the videos online are fake or even staged.

The pelts are used for all sorts of clothing. It's water proof warm and if you are allergic to fur you may not be allergic to seal.

The meat and oil is also used. Flipper pie is the most well known food product.

It is a economics thing for indigenous people of Canada..The fur is very valuable for wearing and the meat is used to feed the people of this isolated area!!!

I think it's true, but if snopes says it fake it must be.  They're pretty reliable.
