Manchester United skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Vidic-c27550 has called upon his teammates to maintain their momentum and keep their sharpness in the closing stages of the Premier League season.
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson’s men are on course to scooping up yet another English title after taking the lead from cross-town rivals Manchester City.
The Citizens, who were on top for the better of the last few months, had a blip in form and it allowed the Red Devils to build a narrow lead on the top of the standings.
Although http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, United are still the ones to beat.
Following some woeful performances in the UEFA Europa League and their subsequent exit from the competition, defensive stalwart and captain Nemanja Vidic has issued a rallying cry to his fellow teammates, urging them to keep their eyes on the prize.
The Serbian, who is injured for the rest of the season after damaging his knee ligaments, spoke to reporters and revealed that the upcoming fixtures were winnable and it placed his side in ascendency for the title.
“We have had the belief from the beginning and if you look at the schedule of games we have left to play, I would like to say we are the favourites,” the centre-back said.
“We still have to win the nine games and need to be focused. We believed from the beginning and have the confidence but we have nine ‘Champions League final’ games now, I would say.”
He also claimed that everyone at Old Trafford was prepared for the crucial phase and that will definitely help them in their remaining games.
“It’s all in our hands now. We have to focus and give our best. The whole teams, all the players, are ready to perform, which is a good sign and a positive thing for the nine games,” the 30-year-old was quoted as saying.
Manchester United now turn their attention to the visit of Fulham on the weekend but the title decider for the 2011/2012 campaign is likely to be the crunch game at the Etihad Stadium in late April.
