Vietnam, China, and Japan successful on third day of 2011 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship
The exhilarating action of club volleyball teams at the 2011 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship entered day three on Monday, July 25. A total of six matches were played on the third day, while the same Palembang competition hall in South Sumatera,
Indonesia provided grounds for the matches. In Pool A, Vietnam, China and Japan emerged as the successful teams of the day. Currently, the preliminary round is underway and only two teams will advance to the next round at the end of the prelims.
Vietnam vs. Uzbekistan 3-0 (25-15, 34-32, and 25-18)
Vietnam cruised to its second victory in Pool A by registering a superb straight-set win over Uzbekistan, the team which has not been able to claim any match of the preliminary round in three days. The winners out-blocked the opponents with a great display
of volleyball. Vietnam’s Quang and Van formed a great combination and they created enough trouble for the Uzbek squad in the opening set of the match with their unstoppable spikes. The good chemistry between them allowed Vietnam to seize the first-set win
with a 10-point margin.
Quang led the balanced attack in the second set as well. However, Sergey Lavrik of Uzbekistan rose up against the heavy strike of volleys from Vietnam. He retaliated and actively participated in throwing the ball over net. The hard work paid off and he managed
to steal some points from his rivals. Meanwhile, Vietnam side tried to put pressure on the Uzbeks via tricky bump passes. The play continued and the second set turned into a heated competition. It sustained for 33 minutes and finally the last whistle of the
referee was blown in Vietnam’s favour. Uzbek team dropped the second set with narrow gap of two points at 32-34.
Despite the great effort in the second set, Uzbekistan was sluggish in the last set. They looked visibly disappointed in third set of the match as Vietnam added quick points to finish the set at 25-18.
Japan vs. Afghanistan 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, and 25-6)
Japanese team breezed past the underdog team from Afghanistan in three sets in a one-sided affair. Japan already had two victories in hand and they were in great position to face off any good team in the competition, while the Afghan team was no threat for
them. Japanese squad marked its third victory in three days of the 2011 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship. On the other hand, Afghanistan suffered its third defeat in the tournament. Ironically enough, Baryalai Yousafi of Afghanistan led the scoring
chart with 10 points but his team remained unsuccessful in the contest.
China vs. Indonesia 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, and 25-18)
China had to dig very deep, in order to defeat host Indonesia in the third match of Pool A on Monday, July 25. China was all set to outdo the undefeated hosts as the opening set of the match was close fight. China’s Li Chun put up a good effort and fought
for his team till the end and the Chinese squad claimed first set with three points.
Second set of the match was another win as Shen Qiong did a great job at defence, while Chinese spikers provided more damage to their opponents. China further extended its lead by winning the second set and minimised the chances of the home team to come
back. Indonesia remained constantly in the chase and could not defend its position in the third set. China took away the match in the third set and celebrated victory.
